Dialectical Behavior Therapy Program (DBT)

Intensive Treatment For Severe Personality Disorders

For patients struggling with intense emotions, impulsivity and harmful behaviors, often including self-harm, Silver Hill offers an intensive Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) program. This is an extended Transitional Living Program where patients live on the Silver Hill campus while undergoing treatment. It is one of the very few such programs of its kind available in the United States.

The Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) Program for Personality Disorders is a highly structured form of behavioral therapy that teaches patients the skills necessary to regulate emotions, control self-destructive behaviors and improve interpersonal relations. It was developed for patients with severe personality disorders, including borderline personality disorders. Patients with eating disorders are also served by this program.

The DBT program is a highly structured, intensive program for patients who do not need close inpatient supervision but are not yet able to manage successfully in an outpatient setting. For those who may be ready for an outpatient setting our DBT Skills Groups Intensive Outpatient Programs are available.

Additionally, for those patients who may require a high degree of supervision Silver Hill Hospital offers its Inpatient Program.

The First Step -- Inpatient Program

Inpatient treatment is typically an essential first step in the recovery from mental illness and all patients admitted to the DBT Program must first be admitted to our Inpatient Program to help assure the patient’s stabilization and to determine the best treatment options to follow.
