Dr. Ackerman, President and Medical Director of Silver Hill Hospital, is a Professor of Clinical Psychiatry, Columbia University College of Physicians & Surgeons and has held academic titles in psychiatry at Cornell University Medical College and Albert Einstein College of Medicine.
Dr. Ackerman, formerly Chief Executive Officer and President of St. Lukes-Roosevelt Hospital Center in New York City, is an honors graduate of Harvard College. He received his medical degree from Tufts University School of Medicine. He trained in psychiatry at Montefiore Medical Center, Albert Einstein College of Medicine, where for 10 years his full-time research on the effects of early maternal separation was federally funded through the National Institutes of Mental Health (NIMH) research scientist development awards, and the National Institutes of Health (NIH) research project awards. Before joining St. Lukes-Roosevelt Hospital as chairman of its department of psychiatry, Dr. Ackerman led a clinical research unit for affective disorders and was the Associate Director for Clinical Affairs and Research at the Eating Disorders Institute of New York Hospital, Cornell University Medical Center, Westchester Division. >TOP
Dr. Barry Kerner
Dr. Kerner, Physician-in-Chief, became associated with Silver Hill Hospital in 1999 as a staff psychiatrist. He was promoted to Chief of Adult Psychiatry in May, 2001 and was, again, promoted in January, 2003 to his current position as Physician-in-
Chief. He is responsible for a staff of 32 psychiatrists. Prior to joining Silver Hill Hospital, Dr. Kerner had a private practice in psychiatry in Kingston, Poughkeepsie, and Katonah, New York. He has 25 years experience in the field of psychiatry and has held several medical directorships. Dr. Kerner was managing partner of a large psychiatric group practice in California prior to moving to the east coast.
Dr. Kerner received his M.D. from the University of Health Sciences at the Chicago Medical School, and was a resident in psychiatry at the University of Southern California Medical Center and the UCLA School of Medicine. He also studied medical acupuncture for physicians at the University of California. Faculty appointments include Assistant Clinical Professor, Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at UCLA School of Medicine, and Assistant Professor of Psychiatry at the University of California in Los Angeles.
Dr. Kerner is a founding diplomate of the American Board of Holistic Medicine. He was the first doctor in the state of Connecticut to be board certified in psychiatry and neurology, as well as holistic medicine. >TOP
Dr. Evan Bellin
Dr. Bellin is Associate Clinical Professor of Psychiatry at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine. He is a graduate and former faculty member of the Columbia University Center for Psychoanalytic Training and Research. He completed his undergraduate
work in political science at Dartmouth College and went on to study medicine at the University of California in Los Angeles. He did a medical internship at Maimonides Hospital in Brooklyn, followed by a psychiatric residency at Albert Einstein College of Medicine. He completed a fellowship in Community Psychiatry at the Bronx Psychiatric Center and a second fellowship in Family Therapy at the Philadelphia Child Guidance Center under the supervision of Dr. Salvador Minuchin.
Hospital based psychiatry has been a special interest of Dr. Bellin. Before coming to Silver Hill Hospital, he spent 25 years working in the Bronx at the Bronx Psychiatric Center on almost all its teaching, clinical and administrative levels. He finally served as the hospital's clinical director, being responsible for the care of its 600 patients.
Dr. Bellin is a citizen of both the United States and Israel. He spends a considerable amount of professional and personal time in Israel where he has been a guest lecturer and clinical supervisor at Rambam Hospital in Haifa and at Haemek Hospital in Afula. Dr. Bellin has been in private practice for over thirty years. He currently maintains active practices in Israel's Jezreel Valley, Tel Aviv, New Rochelle, New York and New Canaan, Connecticut. He has lectured, taught, and written on a wide range of subjects ranging from the psychodynamic meaning of psychiatric medication to the analysis of textual strategies in psychotherapeutic treatments. >TOP
Dr. Leo Chaikovsky
Dr. Chaikovsky was born In Chicago, Illinois, where he attended both the University of Illinois as an undergraduate, earning a Bachelors of Arts with Distinction in Psychology, and medical school at the University of Illinois at Chicago where he obtained
his Doctor of Medicine degree. Dr. Chaikovsky completed a rotating medical internship at Norwalk Hospital, CT, and then finished his residency training in psychiatry at Yale University School of Medicine where he also completed a Fellowship year in Neuropsychiatry. Afterwards, following the completion of this training, he joined the faculty of the School of Medicine at the University of Connecticut as Assistant Professor of Psychiatry and Director of Inpatient Psychiatry at the Newington Veterans Administration Medical Center. He then received a teaching award from the graduating class of psychiatric residents at the University of Connecticut in 1989.
After leaving the University of Connecticut, Dr. Chaikovsky joined the staff at Silver Hill Hospital in 1987, first as a staff psychiatrist on the acute care service and then becoming Service Chief when the Acute Care Unit opened in 1989. In addition, he continued to pursue his love of teaching by securing a part-time teaching appointment in the Department of Psychiatry at Yale in 1988, where he continues to teach part-time as Assistant Clinical Professor of Psychiatry. This year he received a teaching award from Yale, The Outstanding Clinical Faculty Award, for his contributions to teaching in the Department of Psychiatry at Yale.
Dr. Chaikovsky joined Geriatric Psychiatry Associates, a geriatric consultation and general adult outpatient practice in Darien, CT, in 1997. He rejoined the staff of Silver Hill Hospital as Service Chief of the Admissions Department in July, 2006. >TOP
Dr. Joshua Farber
Dr. Joshua E. Farber is the Service Chief for the Substance Detoxification Program. In this position, Dr. Farber treats patients admitted to the hospital for detoxification from alcohol, drugs and prescription
medications and also treats patients in the hospital’s transitional living programs. He is board certified in psychiatry.
Dr. Farber joins the Silver Hill Hospital medical staff from the Department of Veteran’s Affairs in Montrose, NY. There he practiced psychiatry and served as Head Physician of the Substance Abuse treatment program. Dr. Farber completed his residency at New York Medical College at Westchester Medical Center and a fellowship in Addiction Psychiatry at the Mount Sinai School of Medicine. Dr. Sandra Gomez
Dr. Sandra Gomez is an Assistant Professor of Psychiatry at New York University School of Medicine and a second year candidate at the New York University's Psychoanalytic Institute. She is certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and
Neurology in General and in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry.
Dr. Gomez graduated Cum Laude from Pedro H. Urena National University School of Medicine in the Dominican Republic. She completed her fellowship in child and adolescent psychiatry at Columbia University's St. Luke's-Roosevelt Hospital Center where she became chief resident during her senior year.
Dr. Gomez has a strong interest in studying Adolescent suicide, an interest that originated from her contact with hundreds of suicidal children, adolescents and young adults during her tenure as the Director of the Emergency Services for the Division of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry at Bellevue Hospital Center in New York City. Since then Dr. Gomez has participated in prominent research projects in this field such as the treatment of Adolescents Suicide Attempters (TASA) study. She is a member of the Advisory Board for the David Dawes Nee II Foundation for Suicide Prevention, Awareness and Research.
Dr. Gomez has co-authored several peer-reviewed articles, contributing to her field in areas as diverse as Anxiety Disorders and ADHD in adolescents, among others. >TOP
Dr. Robert Guerrera
Dr. Guerrera received his medical degree from the Universita’ degli Studi di Bologna, Facolta’ di Medicina e Chirurgia in Bologna, Italy. He completed his residency training in psychiatry at Duke University Medical Center in Durham, NC, where he
served as the chief resident of the Psychiatric Outpatient Clinic.
Dr. Guerrera specializes in the treatment of dual diagnosis, including major depressive disorder, bipolar disorder, schizophrenia and addictive disorders. His interests include emergency psychiatry and psycho-oncology. Dr. Guerrera joined the medical staff at Silver Hill Hospital in August 2004. He is board eligible in Psychiatry and Neurology and certified in Electroconvulsive Therapy. >TOP
Dr. Anri Kissilenko

completed his residency at The New York Presbyterian Hospital-Weill Cornell Medical Center, Westchester Division. Additionally, Dr. Kissilenko trained as a fellow in Geriatric Psychiatry at The Cornell University Medical College, New York. Dr. Neil Price
Dr. Neil Price is Service Chief for Transitional Living Programs. Upon graduation from the City College of New York in New York City,
Dr. Price earned a medical degree from Free University in Brussels, Belgium. He is certified as a diplomat of the American College of Psychiatry and Neurology.
Dr. Price began his psychiatric training at Eastern Virginia Graduate Medical School in Norfolk, VA. He later did his training at Eastern State Hospital in Williamsburg, VA. He completed his residency at Yale University Medical School in New Haven, CT. His psychiatric residencies included the subspecialties of chemical dependency plus adult, geriatric, adolescent and child psychiatry, among others.
While at Yale, Dr. Price was Chief Resident of the Connecticut Mental Health Center. He has taught at medical schools, presented at conferences of the American Psychiatric Association, and spoken at workshops for the general public. He has participated in research and has been published widely in journals and the popular press. Dr. Price is author of the book, On the edge: the love/hate world of the borderline personality. He has also been co-host of two highly popular radio shows that focused on mental health issues.
Prior to joining our staff, Dr. Price practiced psychiatry and served as Medical Director for The Counseling Center at Lawrence and Memorial Hospital in New London, Conn. He has served a total of 18 years as medical director and over 12 years as a staff psychiatrist at several facilities. >TOP
Dr. Ellyn Shander
Dr. Ellyn Shander graduated from Albert Einstein College of Medicine and received her psychiatric residency training at Columbia Presbyterian Hospital in New York City. Since 1984, she has been an attending psychiatrist at Silver
Hill Hospital and served as Medical Director of the Eating Disorder and Trauma Dissociation Treatment Programs.
She founded "Healing Seminars", an organization dedicated to teaching mind body connections to help heal physical and psychiatric problems and has lectured on the treatment of Dissociation and Trauma in France, Italy and the US.
Dr. Shander is committed to helping people in distressed communities and was the recipient of the 2007 Bruno Lima Award of the American Psychiatric Association in 2007. This award was for Dr. Shander's work with victims in Sri Lanka after the Tsunami and survivors of Hurricane Katrina.
