Adult Inpatient – Substance Use Disorders
Our adult inpatient program for substance use disorders, including alcohol abuse, is a short-stay treatment program in which patients withdraw from alcohol, cocaine, heroin, prescription opioids, tranquilizers and other substances of potential abuse. Treatment in the inpatient substance use disorders program is abstinence based. If indicated, this can include Suboxone®-assisted detox from opioids. The primary goal is a medically safe, physically eased and emotionally supported detoxification. A second, equally important goal of this program is to prepare patients for subsequent stages of treatment, where they will confront the difficulties inherent in staying free of drugs or alcohol. To do this we work with each patient to help him or her acknowledge the depth and tenacity of the problem and help motivate him/her to engage in the long task of recovery.
After detox, rehabilitative therapy begins. Adult patients may be offered residential rehabilitation in our 28-day Transitional Living Program, may be referred to residential rehabilitation elsewhere or may be discharged home for continued treatment by their referring clinician, often in conjunction with an aftercare outpatient program in the community. Family members are encouraged to participate in our Family Forum.
Most adult inpatient addiction treatment at Silver Hill takes place in The Lodge, a 14-bed unit. Treatment is provided by a multi-disciplinary team that includes board certified psychiatrists, nursing staff, social workers, addiction specialists, group therapists and a dietician. After admission, each patient meets his or her team, including his/her psychiatrist, at morning rounds. There they will discuss the patient’s goals for treatment and begin to formulate a treatment plan and discharge plan. After that, and with the patient’s permission, the patient’s psychiatrist will call the referring clinician regarding the admission and the social worker will call the patient’s family to arrange a family meeting. |
