In 2005, Silver Hill developed a Facility Master Plan for the future, identifying priorities to bring the patient care experience to the highest level. With buildings of the highest quality for optimal therapeutic benefit as the goal of the plan, it was clear that the hospital's physical environment needed substantial improvement. This drove the exquisite renovation of the Lodge in 2006, and the rebuilding of the Patricia Regnemer Main House, the redesign of Grey House for Admissions, and the opening of "Hill House" for a new clinical program, all in 2008.
Although concern about the economic crisis caused work to pause briefly in 2009, the hospital was incredibly fortunate to receive several generous gifts in January this year to begin the next significant construction project at Barrett House, the site of our residential program for women. In March, the interior of the first floor was virtually gutted to create an open floor plan more conducive to therapeutic programming and more comfortable for patient socialization. A new front porch and expansive deck on the rear of the house add to the interior living space, which is now open front to back and filled with light from new French doors, windows and skylights. As a part of the renovation, all mechanicals, including electrical and HVAC systems, have been completely replaced.
The project, which is ahead of schedule, will be completed in late July and reopen to patients in August. While it is impossible to adequately describe the scope and quality of the construction, these photos provide a glimpse of the new Barrett House. Announcing the Silver Hill Gala
Cipriani 42nd Street will be the place to be on Thursday evening, November 11, 2010. At an elegant black tie gala coinciding with the hospital’s 80th anniversary year, Silver Hill Hospital will be showcased as a national leader in the treatment of mental illness and addiction. This promises to be a wonderful celebration, as well as a perfect opportunity to join others in gratitude for the expert treatment and compassionate care Silver Hill has consistently delivered since first opening its doors in 1931.
This festive evening, which will include dinner and dancing, and a live auction, is the inspiration of Silver Hill’s close friends Michael Cominotto and Dennis Basso, who wish to raise awareness for the hospital’s excellence as an exceptional resource for patients and families residing in the northeast. Importantly, Michael and Dennis have chosen a laudable cause for support, choosing to direct all proceeds to scholarships for adolescents and young adults in need of financial assistance to receive treatment in one of the hospital’s residential programs.
While details continue to evolve, an exceptional group of women philanthropists have agreed to join Michael and Dennis as benefit vice chairs, and the phenomenal Natalie Cole will be present as Mistress of Ceremonies. Please continue to check this website for updated information.
For more details or to receive an invitation, please contact the Development Office at Silver Hill Hospital at 203 801-2295 or email Melanie Baird, or the Benefit Office at 212 843-1741 or email

New Cognitive Assessment and Training Program
Do You Want to Remember More and Feel Sharper?
Do You Want to Focus Better and Notice More?
How does Cognitive Training Work?
Think of cognitive training as ‘exercise for the brain’. By exercising your brain several times a week you can improve your memory, concentration and problem solving skills. Cognitive training increases the quantity of sensory information the brain takes in and improves the quality with which the brain processes and records this information.
The Cognitive Assessment and Training Program starts with an intake assessment conducted by a psychologist. The purpose of the assessment is to identify an individual’s cognitive strengths and weaknesses and then prescribe training exercises using Posit Science, the computer-based training program used by Yale University School of Medicine and Silver Hill Hospital. The Posit Science cognitive training exercises are performed under the supervision of Silver Hill Hospital staff over a six to eight week period. Upon completion of the exercise, the psychologist measures the specific areas in which cognition has improved and provides feedback to assist in translating the cognitive gains to real life experiences.
Silver Hill Hospital will provide the laptop and install and maintain the training software during the cognitive training program. The fee for this service is $2,500 and is covered by Medicare.
For more information or to schedule an intake assessment with the psychologist, please call 800 899-4455 and ask for the admissions department.
