Transitional Living Programs - Dual Disorders
Following detoxification from drugs of abuse and the stabilization of psychiatric symptoms during inpatient care, treatment can continue in our Transitional Living Program track for dually-diagnosed patients.
Consistent with the patient's inpatient care, the treatment approach is a combination of medical and psychotherapeutic interventions. Our objective is to have the patient come to understand the dual nature of his/her disorders and to develop the strategies necessary to control both.
Daily, abstinence-based programs will include various forms of group therapies, educational formats, individual discussions, and self-reflection. In addition, the patient's Silver Hill psychiatrist will be able to continue adjustment of medication, if necessary. Individual psychotherapy is not part of the core program, although individual meetings with our psychiatrists and other staff members are routine and regular. Under some circumstances the patient and his/her psychiatrist may feel that formal individual psychotherapy is indicated. In that case, such therapy can be arranged privately.
The clinical staff continually reevaluates the nature of each patient's illness so that the diagnoses will be accurate and understood by the patient.
Almost all patients in the dual disorders treatment program require medications, and these are continually assessed and adjusted as needed. |
