Heather Smith, LCSW
“What I love about Silver Hill is the way we work as a team, with genuine respect for each others’ roles, and I think patients feel that.”
Loving what she does is the hallmark of Heather Smith, LCSW, who is also known as a calming influence in a highly emotional environment, an effect her colleagues like to call “heatherizing.”
Heather is a clinical social worker in the Transitional Living Program, working primarily with patients who are fighting both addiction and some co-occurring mental condition. Her work involves running groups, treating patients individually, working with families, and developing solid aftercare plans.
“A balanced aftercare plan,” says Heather, “includes not just treatment and ways to build structure. It must also include ways to reclaim the things that people once did for fun that they just lost interest in, because of the disorders they are in here to address.”
Heather says she and her Silver Hill colleagues “are all here because we love what we do and work well together. It makes for a much more comprehensive and helpful experience for our patients.”
