Jenna Aceycek, MSW
“I just want the kids to know that they can come to me with any issue, or for a laugh, or a shoulder to cry on.”
Being there for young people struggling with depression, anxiety and other mental health issues is the work of Jenna Aceycek, MSW, a social worker in Silver Hill Hospital’s Inpatient Adolescent Unit.
“This is a safe and comforting environment,” says Jenna, “where teens can take a step back to evaluate and reevaluate their lives, and figure out what’s going to change when they are discharged.”
The Inpatient Adolescent Unit treats those aged 13 to 17 who are suffering from an acute mental health episode and need stabilization, plus a plan for going forward. “We tackle the crisis that occurred,” says Jenna, “and then work out ways to move forward.”
Jenna’s role includes running coping skills groups, consulting with teammates to develop post-discharge treatment plans, and working with patients’ families through the treatment process and beyond. “A lot of what I do is helping the families help their children,” says Jenna.
